NBN TV journalist hankers for a little Bond ...

TELEVISION journalist, nightly news anchor, mother of two. Three descriptions, one person: Natasha Beyersdorf.

Natasha is the face we all recognise when we switch to NBN News each night, the person we trust to deliver the news – good and bad – and tell us the stories in a no-nonsense fashion.

Before Natasha became a Newcastle and Hunter Valley fixture though she was a dyed-in-the-wool Armidalian, a bush kid who longed to own a Mini (she never did) and who studied journalism at the University of New England.

And it was just after finishing her studies that Natasha Beyersdorf bought her first car.

"I ended up with a Toyota Corolla. It was white, automatic and pretty boring. There was nothing ‘power' on it, no power steering, no power windows, definitely no air-conditioning, nothing.

"I got it when I finished uni and I had it for five years. It carried me faithfully, and we covered ‘significant kays' – I think that's the best way to put it, and it never let me down.

"The only drama I had with it was when I hit a kangaroo while I was driving between Gunnedah and Tamworth.

"I remember that a lovely old farmer stopped to help. He used some wire to keep the bonnet shut and off I went!"

"I moved on in car terms but I actually sold it for more than I paid for it! I bought a Suzuki Vitara."

"I turned into a grown-up a few years ago and bought a Ford Territory. They are about to stop making them which is a shame.

"It's an old warhorse. I've had it for 10 years, and some things don't work quite as well as they once did.

"Nothing against the Territory but it really doesn't have any bells and whistles, no Bluetooth connection for the phone, that sort of thing. I really want some bells and whistles.

"Whatever I get it will need to have enough room for the kids (10 and 12) and the dog.

"The problem is there are so many SUVs on the market to choose from and I just don't know where to start."

"I guess anything that James Bond has ever driven. Those are mostly Aston Martins, right?"
